Will my ex have to pay the mortgage?

Hi all, my marriage is at a crisis stage and am unsure what the future holds. If it ends in separation and divorce does my ex have to pay our mortgage? I have 2 children aged 8 and 13. I earn £12,000 per annum and my husband is on £55,000 plus a 20% xmas bonus. Our mortgage is in joint names and is £1200 per month on a repayment basis. I do not want to uproot the children out of their home. I am desperate to save the marriage but he is unsure what he wants to do, so if anyone leaves the property, it will be him. I would be grateful for any advice, many thanks

Husband, Mortgage, and Divorce

The first thing to do is find a lawyer you can afford and get some legal advice. The second thing is something you should have been doing for a long time: squirrel money away. I know it is difficult, but you have to hide some savings for yourself. And I don't mean for the children. He will have to do most of that; so it is about you having a rat hole in case things go bad.

If you can stay married or come to an arrangement with your husband, do so until the children are older.

I hope he is a decent man; it can get very ugly if you break in to a War of the Roses type of divorce.

Good luck.
