My family says ...

I came out to my mom and she was fine with it but then she told my aunt and uncle and they were asking me if I’d had sex with a guy or a girl yet. I told them no, so they said there’s no way I could know if I was gay or bi. But I don’t think that has anything to do with it. It’s just who I’m attracted to, or who I can love. Sex just goes with it. At least… that’s what I thought. Help!

Katie

Hello Andrea,
I know something that might come in handy, but I am not promising anything. First you have to reallly know how they feel about homosexuality and bisexuality, because bending the truth a little might not always help, another thing that you also have to keep in mind is how open do you want to be about your sexuality, do you want people to know or just certain some ones, my best advice is that you bring the subject, I am pretty sure that you can come up with a subject about homosexuality, if not, just look in the newspaper, pay attention to their reactions and their answers to the subjects. See how they really act. As in for your friends, if you have any female bestfriends, I recomend that you come out to them first, and little by little you will build up some confidence on your self, it takes time, unless you just want to bright it out loud. Another source of help specially for your parents, you might find it at www.pflag.org its Parents Friends of Lesbians and Gays, they are mainly focused on dealing with homosexuality in the parenthood points of views.
